Live MLB - Boston Red Sox at Toronto Blue Jays ESPN 12am

These teams are streaking in opposite directions. Jon Lester is 4-0, 2.27 ERA on the season and 12-7, 3.67 ERA lifetime against Toronto. Brandon Morrow is 0-2, 5.27 ERA and 1-3, 8.28 ERA against Boston over his career.

The Blue Jays' bats are ice cold hitting .227. The 1.84 on the Red Sox looks cracking value, but I'm desperate ...

Pick: Boston Red Sox -1.5 @ 2.4

  17-20 (-2.52)

Monday 29 April 2013

Live MLB - Washington Nationals at Atlanta Braves ESPN 12am

Strasburg has been unlucky this season, pitching well enough, but not getting any run support. Worryingly, he has traditionally struggled in Atlanta and Teheran was strong last time out in Colorado.

However, looking at Jeff Sagarin's NPERA we see Strasburg at 2.86 and Teheran at 6.27. Teheran also gave up five runs in 5IP in his only home start this year. The Braves are on a four game slide, so I'll take some of the 2.4 on offer for the Nats on the runline.

Pick: Washington Nationals -1.5 @ 2.4

 17-19 (-1.52)

Thursday 25 April 2013

Live MLB - Cincinnati Reds at Washington Nationals ESPN 12am

Bronson Arroyo has a decent record against the Nats in Washington (his last four starts there have been QS) and he has pitched well L3. Gio Gonzalez has sketchy numbers L3 (1.79/8.35 WHIP/ERA)

A streak plays against the home team too, making the Reds the value.

Pick: Cincinnati Reds @ 2.24
17-18 (-0.52)

Live MLB - Kansas City Royals at Detroit Tigers ESPN 6pm

Last night was a heart breaker. I liked that bet a lot and to see a two-out single in the ninth off closer Brandon League blow the game was very frustrating. The grand salami was the cherry on the parfait.

This game is an Unders call with Verlander and Shields taking the mound.

Pick: Under 6.5 @ 2

 17-17 (+0.48)

Wednesday 24 April 2013

Live MLB - Los Angeles Dodgers at New York Mets ESPN 12am

To describe Matt Harvey as a phenom is to understate the impact of the young right hander - he appears to be unstoppable. He fits my profile of pitchers who must be backed, except for two criteria; the price is too short and he's a righty.

The Dodgers have won a couple coming into tonight and put up some runs. The Mets' bullpen is horrible at the moment and if Ted Lilly can keep the Dodgers in this one (his numbers against the Mets are good enough) then the price for the visitors is too good to resist.

Pick: Los Angeles Dodgers @ 2.5

 17-16 (+1.48)

Live MLB - Cleveland Indians at Chicago White Sox ESPN 7pm

I'm tempted by the Unders here, with Jose Quintana pitching so well and the White Sox hitting so poorly - they're batting .161 (including 0 for 10 RISP) on a four game losing streak.

With a qualifying streak also playing for the Indians and Zach McAllister's numbers against the home team (2-0 with a 2.66 ERA in four starts) it's time to double down.

Pick: Cleveland Indians @ 2.25
Pick: Under 7 @ 2.2

 16-15 (+1.28)

Tuesday 23 April 2013

Live MLB - St. Louis Cardinals at Washington Nationals ESPN 12am

This game is an interesting; Detwiler is pitching really well at the back end of the Nats' rotation and tonight he takes on the Cards' ace who has traditionally struggled at Nationals Park. Wainright has a 14.40 ERA in Washington.

Detwiler's biggest problem may be a lack of run support, as Washington are struggling to plate runs.

With this in mind, and with Detwiler's form hopefully holding the St. Louis' bats in check, I'll go Under.

Pick: Under 7 @ 2.05

 15-15 (+0.23)

Monday 22 April 2013

Live MLB - New York Yankees at Tampa Bay Rays ESPN 12am

CC Sabathia is 3-8 in 18 starts against the Rays and 1-4 with a 4.01 ERA in his previous eight at the Trop. Matt Moore has been strong L3, but has had problems with the Yankees: 2-2 with a 5.06 ERA in four starts.

The Tampa Bay bats are red hot and the Yankees, even with their fitness problems, are hitting .273, so I'm going Over here.

Pick: Over 7 @ 2

15-14 (+1.23)

Sunday 21 April 2013

Live MLB - St Louis Cardinals at Philadelphia Phillies ESPN 1am

Jake Westbrook, in a contract year, hasn't allowed an earned run this season, but he was on the hook for four against Pittsburgh on Tuesday until the weather saved his stat line.

The home team are scuffling at the plate, and it would be nice to see Ryan Howard in the lineup.

I'm going with the pitchers' historic lines here against the opponents. Westbrook is 2-1 with a 4.39 ERA in five career starts versus Philadelphia; Kendrick is 5-1 with a 2.68 ERA against St. Louis.

Pick: Philadelphia Phillies @ 2

14-14 (+0.23)

Thursday 18 April 2013

Live MLB - St Louis Cardinals at Philadelphia Phillies ESPN 12am

Adam Wainwright is in outstanding form and has fared well against the Phillies - 1-0/0.90 ERA L3. Cole Hamels has had a difficult start, but may have sorted out those early problems.

Even so, with Wainwright on the mound and a streak playing against the home team, I'll take the price.

Pick: St Louis Cardinals @ 2.05

 13-14 (-0.82)

Live MLB - San Francisco Giants at Milwaukee Brewers ESPN 6pm

A streak plays here, as does Gallardo's record against the Giants. In six starts against San Francisco since 2009, the right-hander is 4-2 with a 1.91 ERA - tied for his lowest ERA against any team.

Contrast Matt Cain, whose 5.56 ERA in five starts at Miller Park is his second-worst at any NL ballpark. (CBS Sports)

The Brewers' win streak and those pitcher numbers make Milwaukee the value at better than Evens.

Pick: Milwaukee Brewers @ 2.04

 12-14 (-1.86)

Wednesday 17 April 2013

Live MLB - Philadelphia Phillies at Cincinnati Reds ESPN 12am

Mike Leake has been hit hard by the Phillies (0-3 with a 9.33 ERA in five career starts) and has started the season poorly. In contrast, John Lannan is 1-0 with a 3.86 ERA in four starts against the Reds and has been solid - he must be the value here.

Both teams are struggling to hit and although Great American Ball Park is generally regarded as a hitter friendly park, I'll go Under too.

Pick: Philadelphia Phillies @ 2.2
Pick: Under 8.5 @ 2.1

12-12 (+0.14)

Monday 15 April 2013

Live MLB - Philadelphia Phillies at Cincinnati Reds ESPN 12am

God that was a horrible bet O's/Yanks last night. As the weather changed, I hope no-one was on.

This one is a little more clear cut; Cliff Lee is rolling and the Phillies are too, whereas the Reds are stuttering.

Lee enjoys Cincinnati (3-0/1.67 ERA L4) Bronson Arroyo has been knocked about by the Phillies (1-6/8.50 ERA L7).

1.84 is a decent enough price, but I might get a bit greedy here and turn Philadelphia into a road dog on the runline.

Pick: Philadelphia Phillies -1.5 @ 2.4

Sunday 14 April 2013

Live MLB - Baltimore Orioles at New York Yankees ESPN 1am

Neither of these pitchers inspires and with tonight's teams sitting at eight and nine in total runs in the majors and the wind out at Yankee Stadium, I'm going for my least favourite bet in baseball and going Over - but check the weather at first pitch.

Pick: Over 8.5 @ 2.05

Live MLB - Colorado Rockies at San Diego Padres ESPN 9pm

The streaking Rockies have hit Clayton Richard hard recently (1-3 with a 7.29 ERA L6) making them the value here.

Pick: Colorado Rockies @ 1.9
11-10 (+1.24)

Saturday 13 April 2013

Live MLB - Detroit Tigers at Oakland Athletics ESPN 9pm

I like the home streak, but Verlander has blistering numbers against the A's. Similarly, Brett Anderson is 3-1 with a 1.86 ERA in his last four games against the Tigers.

Verlander seems to have got rid of the off-season cobwebs and Anderson has been strong so far. I'm looking Under and the A's; but both prices are skinny at best price 1.83 and 2.17 respectively.

I'm not taking Verlander on at that price; I think the value is actually the shorter, Unders bet.

Pick: Under 7 @ 1.83

Live MLB - Atlanta Braves at Washington Nationals ESPN 6pm

Streaks are powerful in baseball and Atlanta are on a 7 game tear. Tim Hudson is 14-5 with a 2.65 ERA lifetime against the Nats.

The Braves are the bet.

Pick: Atlanta @ 2.45

10-9 (+0.79)

Friday 12 April 2013

Live MLB - San Francisco Giants at Chicago Cubs ESPN 7.20pm

When the wind is out at Wrigley, go Over. It is at the moment, so check it at game time. However, 9.5 is too high for my taste, so I'll leave that to my reader.

Matt Cain had a poor outing last time out, but Villanueva isn't in his class and this is worth a look on the runline with the Giants on a four game streak and cold cubbie bats.

Pick: SF Giants -1.5 @ 2.2

10-8 (+1.79)

Thursday 11 April 2013

Live MLB - Toronto Blue Jays at Detroit Tigers ESPN 6pm

Toronto spent the off-season setting up and signalling a run at things this year, but their start has been less than dazzling. There are signs of life on offense however, and with Fister's poor form and a shambolic Detroit bullpen, the road dog looks a live chance.

The Tigers are loaded on offense too and Josh Johnson has also struggled off the line, so I'll also take some Overs.

Pick: Toronto Blue Jays @ 2.21
Pick: Over 7.5 @ 1.91

9-7 (+1.88)

Wednesday 10 April 2013

Tuesday 9 April 2013

Live MLB - Toronto Blue Jays at Detroit Tigers ESPN 6pm

Toronto are hitting just .223 on the season and even though Sanchez has a less than stellar record against the Blue Jays, he was strong last time out against the Twins.

Similarly, Brandon Morrow pitched well in his last game, against Cleveland, and has developed into a fine pitcher.

If Toronto had any form at the plate, they'd be the value, but I'd like to see them hit in a couple of games first, so I'll go Under instead.

Pick; Under 8 @ 2.05
8-5 (+2.83)

Monday 8 April 2013

Live MLB - Baltimore Orioles at Boston Red Sox ESPN 7pm

Boston are hitting the cover off it, but Wei-Yin Chen flashed some form against them last season (2-0, 1.38 ERA; 1.39/.250 WHIP/ERA lifetime) Similarly, Clay Buchholz has done well at home against the birds (3-1, 2.04 ERA)

I'll go Under.

Pick: Under 9 @ 2.00
7-5 (+1.83)

Sunday 7 April 2013

Live MLB - LA Angels at Texas Rangers ESPN 1am

There's nothing quite like baseball for making a monkey out of a tipper! Only 9 runs out on the early game :)

Yu Darvish was brutal in his last outing, flirting with a perfect game, and as a general rule I like to oppose that pitcher next time out. Despite their great performance, the pitcher in question usually throws a lot of pitches and there's often an emotional let-down. There's talk too of a blistered finger - a big problem for a pitcher.

With Weaver on the hill for the visitors, I have to like the Angels at the price.

Pick: LA Angels @ 2.21
7-4 (+2.83)

Live MLB - New York Yankees at Detroit Tigers ESPN 6pm

The Yankees want to go home. CC hasn't got great numbers against the Tigers and the home team are hitting nicely. Verlander has been strong, so I'll break a rule in a game that could see the Yankee well beaten.

Pick: Detroit -1.5 @ 2.15
7-3 (+3.83)

Friday 5 April 2013

Live MLB New York Yankees at Detroit Tigers ESPN 6pm

Both these pitchers have poor numbers against this afternoon's opposition. Nova and Fister also had a ropey Spring and that Tigers bullpen looks vulnerable.

I'll go Over.

Pick: Over 8 @ 1.87
6-3 (+2.96)

Thursday 4 April 2013

Live MLB - Seattle Mariners at Oakland A's ESPN 8.30pm

I like young pitchers up against lineups for the first time (preferably hard throwing lefties) but Brandon Maurer is a weird call-up - he had a great Spring, but really has come out of nowhere to take the mound in the bigs - effectively straight out of double A ball.

A.J. Griffin had a promising rookie season that tapered off badly and I have a feeling batters have read the book.

I'll take a little Overs.

Pick: Over 7.5 @ 2.00

Live MLB - LA Angels at Cincinnati Reds ESPN 5.30pm

The Angels' high priced hitters are ice cold; but that kind of talent doesn't stay silent for long and Blanton has had some success against the Reds, making LAA a value dog.

Pick: LA Angels @ 2.07
5-2 (+2.96)

Wednesday 3 April 2013

Live MLB - Boston Red Sox at New York Yankees ESPN 12am

The Yankees owned Clay Buchholz last year. In contrast, Hiroki Kuroda was strong against the Red Sox, particularly at Yankee Stadium. However, it's a different world in the Bronx these days and a downbeat ball club.

I'll take Buchholz to carry his Spring form into this game and defy history.

Pick: Boston Red Sox @ 2.05

4-2 (+1.91)

Live MLB - Texas Rangers at Houston Astros ESPN 7pm

Although Philip Humber has had a decent Spring and has the stuff occasionally, I like Texas here. Both hurlers found themselves in the bullpen at some point in 2012, although for slightly different reasons. Ogando was significantly stronger in April last term and should dominate.

The price on the moneyline is too skinny, so as Texas are on the road, I'll take a punt on the runline.

Pick: Texas Rangers -1.5 @ 1.95

3-2 (+0.96)

Tuesday 2 April 2013

Live MLB - Baltimore Orioles at Tampa Bay Rays ESPN 8pm

Betting the dog is the way to go with baseball, but occasionally it's difficult to make a case - even for a lawyer!

David Price is a shut down pitcher going 20-5, 2.56 ERA in 2012. Maybe he was weaker at home? Nope. Maybe the Orioles knocked him around? Nope, 0.81/0.40 WHIP/ERA!

I don't like the runline at home; Hammel has ropey figures indoors, but it's a tiny sample size and nothing at the Trop.

In all honesty, this isn't a game I'd get involved in, but if I must, I'll take the Under.

Pick: Under 7 @ 1.83

3-1 (+1.96)

Monday 1 April 2013

Live MLB - Philadelphia Phillies at Atlanta Braves ESPN 12am

The Braves have rebuilt their outfield and have had a hard-hitting Spring.

The problem for them tonight is Cole Hamels' arm. However, Hamels will need to be on it in this one, with an awful defence behind him and an outing at Turner Field, where he went 0-1 with an ERA north of 4.00 last year, putting him under the gun.

The Braves may need that deep bullpen, but I'll take a small interest on the home team.

Pick: Atlanta Braves @ 1.96

Live MLB - San Francisco Giants at Los Angeles Dodgers ESPN 9pm

Two pitchers who ranked 2nd and 3rd in Jeff Sagarin's NL ratings last year.

Kershaw went 2-3 with a 1.62 ERA in five starts against San Francisco last season, whereas Matt Cain posted a 2.25 ERA at Dodger Stadium.

It's a clash of NL West titans, but I like low lines.

Go Under.

Pick: Under 6 @ 2.00

Live MLB - Boston Red Sox at New York Yankees ESPN 6pm

A good start! I also benched Norris in one of my fantasy team lol

Two teams who had a rough time last year and are not looking like the powerhouses they usually are in the AL East - I've even taken a little interest in the Orioles to win.

The Yankees are dealing with injuries (even CC has had a procedure) while the Bosox have shipped out some of their expensive, under-performing talent.

Lester was disappointing last year, but has fared well enough against the Yankees on their home turf. Sabathia has had a choppy pre-season and the bombers may not put together enough offense.

Boston are the value.

Pick: Boston Red Sox @ 2.00
0-1 (-1pt)
