Live MLB - St Louis Cardinals at Pittsburgh Pirates 12am ESPN

The Bucs are rollin'; the Cards are definitely not.

Even Adam Wainwright is struggling and the home team may be worth a little touch on the runline - really.

Pick: Pittsburgh Pirates -1.5 @  3.00

 52 - 61 (-5.94)

Monday 29 July 2013

Live MLB - LA Angels at Texas Rangers 12am ESPN

Both teams are struggling, although Texas look deeper in the mire.

The Halos have been hit by the news that Pujols has hit the 15-day disabled list with plantar fasciitis (something I have suffered with - that's where the similarity ends!) but Jered Weaver has shown some form of late, going 0.98/1.77 L3.

Matt Garza has won six straight and is on a seven QS streak.

The bats are ice cold and the two hurlers are hot. I'll go Under.

Pick: Under 7 @ 2.5

 52 - 61 (-5.94)

Thursday 25 July 2013

Live MLB - Philadelphia Phillies at St Louis Cardinals 12am ESPN

Neither of these pitchers can carry my money and with St Louis rampant, I'll take on the total.

Pick: Over 7.5 @ 1.91

Live MLB - New York Yankees at Texas Rangers 7pm ESPN

The Yankees look done, but Hiroki Kuroda is red hot, going 2-0 with a 0.95/0.95 WHIP/ERA over his last three starts.

Derek Holland doesn't have bad numbers either L3, and is stronger at home this season. He shut out the Yankees in New York, but they've knocked him about over his career (1-5, 7.21 ERA).

The Yankees have been pretty anaemic at the plate and that, coupled with Kuroda's form, makes me favour the Unders.

Pick: Under 8 @ 1.87

51 - 60 (-5.81)

Monday 22 July 2013

Live MLB - New York Yankees at Texas Rangers 12am ESPN

Sometimes, you have to trust in the force.

Nova has been red hot of late and threw a one-hit blank in Arlington last time he was in town.

The Rangers are on a four game losing streak and, although the beat up and struggling Yankees (A-Rod, like Jeter, has managed to re-injure himself) are a huge dog, I'm going to take them against Darvish coming off the DL.

Pick: New York Yankees @ 2.8

51 - 59 (-4.81)

Saturday 20 July 2013

Live MLB - Detroit Tigers at Kansas City Royals 12am ESPN

Verlander is 15-2 with a 2.56 ERA in 25 career starts against Kansas City and has a 0.64 ERA in his two matchups this season.

Jeremy Guthrie has given up 11 runs in 8 2/3 innings over his last two home starts and has a 4.26 ERA at  Kauffman Stadium.

Neither team is hitting the cover off it, but Detroit does prefer right handed pitching.

I'll take the road team on the runline.

Pick: Detroit Tigers -1.5 @ 2.0

Live MLB - Atlanta Braves at Chicago White Sox 9pm ESPN

I don't like the Chisox losing streak and I don't like pitchers coming off the DL. However, Peavy has been tough at US Cellular Field and Malholm has struggled mightily on the road.

I'm tempted by the Overs, particularly as it's unlikely Peavy will go deep into this game and the home team bullpen has been vulnerable, but I think Atlanta look the value, even with Malholm on the hill against a struggling Chicago White Sox.

Perhaps keep stakes small, though.

Pick: Atlanta Braves @ 2.03

51 - 57 (-2.81)

Friday 19 July 2013

Live MLB - New York Yankees at Boston Red Sox 12am ESPN

The Yankees got Jeter back for one game and he promptly lands back on the DL, meanwhile Robinson Cano gets hit with a 96-mph fastball from Matt Harvey in the All-Star Game: that pretty much sums up the bombers' season.

Andy Pettitte has been posting increasingly poor numbers and that could spell disaster against a Red Sox team that is flashing some strong offense.

With Felix Doubront putting up 1.91 ERA in his last five starts, I'll give the runs.

Pick: Boston Red Sox -1.5 @ 2.25

50 - 57 (-4.06)

Monday 15 July 2013

Live MLB - St Louis Cardinals at Chicago Cubs 1am ESPN

Adam Wainwright and Travis Wood have both put up nice numbers L3.

I'll keep it simple!

Pick: Under 7 @ 2.00

50 - 56 (-3.06)

Thursday 11 July 2013

Live MLB - Texas Rangers at Baltimore Orioles 12am ESPN

With Darvish landing on the DL, Ross Wolf gets the nod ahead of Neil Ramirez, who looked the hurler most likely. Wolf has done OK, posting a 1.95 ERA over just about 28 IP.

Miguel Gonzalez has racked up six quality starts on the bounce and pitched nine QS out of his last ten.

I'll go Under.

Pick: Under 9 @ 2.05

 49 - 56 (-4.11)

Wednesday 10 July 2013

Live MLB - Oakland Athletics at Pittsburgh Pirates 12am ESPN

I like the Unders here.

Tommy Milone is going up against a light hitting Pirates side and Liriano is pitching beautifully.

Oakland are too short for my taste, so the value looks like the Totals.

Pick: Under 7 @ 2.05

 48 - 56 (-5.16)

Live MLB - New York Mets at San Francisco Giants 8.45pm ESPN

Matt Cain is having a difficult season and the Giants are struggling in clutch situations.

Zack Wheeler actually has a lower ERA on the season, but he'll do well to take this one, especially if he puts as many batters on base as he did last time out, but let's test the streaks.

Pick: New York Mets @ 2.78

Live MLB - Atlanta Braves at Miami Marlins 5.30pm ESPN

Again these aren't two pitchers who fill me with joy. Although Jacob Turner started well, and has good numbers at home, he got hit hard against St. Louis last time out and there's always a feeling that a pitcher is only as happy as his last game.

Paul Maholm similarly looks on a downward curve and has a 1.58/5.09 line L3.

I'll take on the total.

Pick: Over 7.5 @ 2.05

 46 - 56 (-7.99)

Tuesday 9 July 2013

Live MLB - Oakland Athletics at Pittsburgh Pirates 12am ESPN

I'll play the losing streak here - I always prefer them and they are statistically more significant.

Straily had a strong game last time out, but in truth, neither pitcher is going to solve your mortgage problem. Gerrit Cole looks as though he has the stuff, but he's a little raw and got roughed up in his last game.

Oakland are 7-3 L10 and 10-0 against the Bucs. The road dog looks the value.

Pick: Oakland A's @ 2.0

 45 - 56 (-8.99)

Monday 8 July 2013

Live MLB - Washington Nationals at Philadelphia Phillies 12am ESPN

John Lannan flirted with catastrophe before finally getting hit hard in his last outing and there aren't many reasons for optimism tonight.

The problem for the Nats is that Dan Haren is coming off the DL, has horrible numbers and has never beaten the Phillies.

I'll take the home dog and trust this goes Over in a hurry too.

Pick: Philadelphia Phillies @ 2.1
Pick: Over 9.5 @ 1.91

 44 - 55 (-9.09)

Friday 5 July 2013

Live MLB - Atlanta Braves at Philadelphia Phillies 12am ESPN

Each game I tip, ends up with me bursting into tears!

I'm going to be living under a bridge soon ... I hope it has broadband.

Cliff Lee is aces; Jeff Sagarin has him ranked fourth in the NL and I spent a lot of money putting him in every fantasy team I have. Lee is 5-4 with a 2.74 ERA in 11 career starts against Atlanta and I expect him to dominate. He is 0.94/2.74 WHIP/ERA L3.

Paul Maholm goes for the Braves, not Tim Hudson. Maholm has pitched well recently, but has a poor record against the Phillies. I'll stick.

If everyone could stick to their numbers, I'd appreciate it.

Pick: Philadelphia Phillies -1.5 @ 2.4

Thursday 4 July 2013

Live MLB - Baltimore Orioles at Chicago White Sox 7pm ESPN

Neither pitcher fills me with deep joy, but Zach Britton is 2-0 with a 1.29 ERA in two outings against the White Sox and has beaten Jose Quintana already this season.

That, and the Birds' roll, winning six of the last seven, means I'll take the road team.

Pick: Baltimore Orioles @ 1.91

44 - 53 (-7.09)

Wednesday 3 July 2013

Live MLB - Arizona Diamondbacks at New York Mets 12am ESPN

I must admit, I had a chuckle reading this morning's reports. Perhaps Bailey was just waiting for me to call him a rag arm before pitching a no-no and making me look an even bigger fool!

Neither of these teams is lighting it up at the plate, although this looks like it'll be a bigger problem for the road team facing Matt Harvey, who continues to pull up trees. If he'd had any run support his figures would be even more impressive. As it is, he posts a 0.60/1.80 WHIP/ERA L3 (7-1, 2.00 ERA on the season) and should shackle the Diamondbacks.

Randall Delgado (0-2, 4.05 season) is 0-6 with a 4.28 ERA in his last nine outings, and like Harvey has suffered from a lack of run support. 1.44/3.50 L3 suggests he's no mug, but he's putting too many on base and had a rough time on the hill in his last game.

The Mets' bats showed some signs of life on Tuesday and the visitor's losing streak plays here, so I'll take the runline.

Pick: New York Mets -1.5 @ 2.25

44 - 52 (-6.09)

Tuesday 2 July 2013

Live MLB - San Francisco Giants at Cincinnati Reds 12am ESPN

Two sketchy offences against two pitchers who are on their knees.

Lincecum has lost six of his last seven decisions, and is 1-5 in eight road starts this season; against Cincinnati he is 0-1 with a 7.41 ERA in three career outings.

Bailey is 1-3 over his last six outings and has a 5.59 ERA in five starts against the Giants.

Although San Francisco are hitting .196 L5, Cincinnati .229, these pitchers look vulnerable.

I'll go Over.

Pick: Over 8.5 @ 2.00

44 - 51 (-5.09)

Monday 1 July 2013

Live MLB - San Francisco Giants at Cincinnati Reds 12am ESPN

Arroyo is 4-2 with a 1.72 ERA in his last nine starts against the Giants, whereas Kickham is rocking a 10.57 ERA on the season.

The Reds are swinging a stick of celery, but they must be able to muster some offence against this guy.

Arroyo will need to bounce back after a chasing last time out, but he's got a 2.51 ERA at home and San Francisco aren't exactly hitting the cover off the pill.

Pick: Cincinnati Reds -1.5 @ 2.35

43 - 51 (-6.39)

Live MLB - Detroit Tigers at Toronto Blue Jays 6pm ESPN

Knuckleballers are difficult beasts to judge; the wind direction, humidity and stars all have to line up, but if they do, the pitcher is almost unhittable.

Dickey's move to Toronto has not been a happy one on the field, but recently he's shown some of the big money form, throwing a a two-hitter shutout against the Tampa Bay Rays last time out, and he's posted a 1.06/3.05 line L3.

That said, Dickey has a 6.02 ERA at home and his opponent this afternoon, Jose Alvarez, has had a decent start to his career in the majors.

With the Blue Jays hitting just .225 against lefties L10, I think Dickey is worth opposing at the price.

Pick: Detroit Tigers @ 2.30

43 - 50 (-5.39)

Live MLB - New York Yankees at Baltimore Orioles 1am ESPN

With streaks running against the Yankees in both directions, Brian Roberts back and Tillman trying to become the first Oriole to win six games in a month since Rodrigo Lopez in July 2002, I'm opting for desperation here.

Tillman's record against the bombers is poor, which is a worry, but Hiroki Kuroda got lit up last time he pitched at Camden Yards.

Orioles for the sweep.

Pick: Baltimore Orioles -1.5 @ 2.62

 42 - 50 (-7.01)
